Our Commitment To Privacy and Online Safety

Your privacy and the privacy of all children is important to us. To better protect your privacy we provide this notice explaining our online information practices and the choices you can make about the way your information is collected and used. To make this notice easy to find, we make it available on our homepage and at every point where personally identifiable information may be requested.

We recognize that the good will of the individuals who agree to be interviewed is the lifeblood of the survey research Industry, and we take it as our duty to protect the identity of individual respondents and other "personally-identifiable information" about them from disclosure to third parties, including sales organizations, the public or media.

While we encourage the interactive nature of online media, we strive to educate parents and kids about how to appropriately safeguard their privacy when using the Web. Our information collection practices are described below. We urge kids to check with their parents before entering any information on any website and we urge parents to discuss with their kids restrictions regarding the online release of personal information to anyone.

KidzEyes.com recommends that concerned parents and guardians go with their kids to Nickelodeon's excellent guide to safe online behavior at http://www.nick.com/blab/safety/index.jhtml. This is a simple, straightforward guide, written (and illustrated) in terms that kids will understand. Other links containing useful information for parents and children include:

KidzEyes engages in Marketing Research only

KidzEyes.com conducts research projects of various kinds among its panel members and their families. KidzEyes sells nothing to it members, or their parents or guardians. No member of the KidzEyes panel or their parents or guardians will ever be asked to buy anything because of their participation in KidzEyes.com.

Surveys and other research projects conducted by KidzEyes.com are designed to be used solely in opinion research. KidzEyes surveys are not sales efforts, nor will information offered in a KidzEyes survey ever be used in a direct sales effort to members who answer the survey, or to their parents or guardians.

Information from KidzEyes surveys will be used by our clients to design new products or services to be marketed to kids and their families, and to develop advertising or marketing programs for kids and families.

How we communicate with KidzEyes members

Communication between KidzEyes and its members is done via e-mail, using an e-mail address supplied by their parent or guardian. Most KidzEyes surveys are conducted on the KidzEyes Web site, but we may occasionally conduct surveys at other sites operated by one of our clients or partners. If we do, that site will adhere to KidzEyes' standards and policies.

KidzEyes requires the consent of parents or legal guardians before any communication with children

In order for a child to become a member of the KidzEyes.com panel, one of their parents or legal guardians must give them permission to participate by registering them as members.

Our site's registration form requires parents or legal guardians to give us contact information (like their name and email address) and demographic information (like their zip code, age, and income level). This information is used to contact the members of the KidzEyes panel and/or their parents or guardians (see "The information we collect and how it is used ," below). Parents or guardians may choose to remove their child from our panel at any time (see "How you can access or correct your information ," below).

Before collecting personal information from a child, KidzEyes requires verifiable parental consent from the child's parent or legal guardian. KidzEyes offers two options for parents or legal guardians wishing to give their consent: they can either send us a signed form via postal mail or facsimile, or call our toll-free telephone number, which is staffed by trained personnel. Forms can be mailed to KidzEyes, 500 North Michigan Ave., Suite 1200, Chicago, IL 60611, or faxed to KidzEyes at 312 828-9828. Parents wishing to give their consent by phone can call 1-800-KIDZEYES (1-800-543-9393) and press "1" during our working hours, which are normally 9:00am – 5:00pm, Central Time.

Any time we communicate with any of the KidzEyes panel members, we'll make sure that the parents or guardians get a copy of the e-mail, and are invited to view the survey on our Web site.

As KidzEyes grows, and new technologies are developed, we may become able to extend the KidzEyes concept into other types of research. We will always contact the members’ parents or guardians and describe the project before asking any children to participate.

The Information We Collect and How It Is Used

This notice applies to all information collected or submitted on the KidzEyes.com Web site.

We collect three kinds of information: (1) the opinions of KidzEyes panel members and their parents or guardians about issues of interest to us or our clients, (2) background information about the KidzEyes panel members, their parents or guardians, and their households, and (3) personally identifiable information about the parents or guardians of the kids who are registered members of the KidzEyes panel. The way this information is used is as follows:

1. Information about the opinions and activities of KidzEyes panel members and their parents or guardians about issues of interest to us or our clients.

These questions may cover any number of areas, but generally will involve products or services that are marketed for kids and families. Examples of such products and services include Web sites and other Internet services, TV shows, movies, toys, video games, computer software, clothing, music products, food products, snacks, beverages, sports, styles and trends.

Panel members’ opinions are typically reported in aggregate - 43% of panel members thought this-or-that, or 23% of boys were aware of something-or-other. This information will be shared with our clients without identifying the identity of any child, parent or guardian.

In some cases we conduct projects that collect and report information about individual kids’ opinions and/or activities.  For instance, we occasionally conduct studies in which kids are asked to compile journals, sometimes accompanied by photos or videos, of things they do, products they use, and the like.  We carefully preserve the anonymity of project participants, and although we report participants’ ages and genders, we never report their names, locations, or other information that would allow someone to be identified as an individual without first having obtained explicit permission to do so from the child’s parent or guardian.

2. Background information about the KidzEyes panel members, their parents or guardians, and their households.

During the process of registering their child to become a member of the KidzEyes.com panel, parents or legal guardians will be asked a number of questions about their children, themselves and their households. Examples of some of the types of background information that we collect include:

o        How many other children live in the household, and what are their genders and ages?

o        What kind of Internet connections do they have?

o        Does the household have cable TV, satellite TV, a cable modem, video games, or other electronics?

This information is used so that we can determine which panel members should be invited to the surveys we conduct, and to better interpret survey findings. For instance, if we were to conduct a survey about cable TV shows for kids, we would need to invite panel members whose households had cable service.

Background information is combined with opinion data and reported in aggregate – for instance, we might report that, "43% of all survey participants have watched some television show, but among those with cable or satellite TV service, this rose to 64%."

3. Personal information and information that, although it may not itself identify an individual, can be used to do so.

When a parent or guardian registers a child to become a member of the KidzEyes.com panel, we collect personal information in order to communicate by mail, email or telephone with that adult, and in order to communicate by email with the child.

KidzEyes.com may share information with a fulfillment (mailing) house or check processing company in order to send gifts or prizes to KidzEyes panel members, or to other vendors or subcontractors of KidzEyes. Any fulfillment house or other vendor managing a KidzEyes program will agree to be bound by the privacy rules and restrictions contained in this notice.

The types of personal information that we collect are:

o        Parent's or Guardian's first and last name

o        Child's first and last name

o        Child's nickname or user name

o        Address

o        Email addresses for both the parent and child

o        Phone number

Information about the parent or guardian is used to obtain written consent from that parent or guardian for the child to join KidzEyes.com.

No child can become a member of the KidzEyes panel until we have received a signed consent form from a parent or legal guardian via fax or mail, or until a parent or guardian has spoken to one of our telephone operators to give consent. We will not communicate with any child without first having obtained parental consent to the child's panel membership.

Parents can withdraw this consent at any time by visiting the KidzEyes.com Website at http://www.kidzeyes.com/login.asp, accessing their child's records, and making the change. Other methods for changing any information given to KidzEyes can be found below (see "How you can access or correct your information ," below).

Once a child has joined KidzEyes.com, our normal method of communicating with that child is via email. Children who are members of the KidzEyes.com panel will receive email invitations to come to our survey Website to complete questionnaires. Whenever we email an invitation to one of the KidzEyes panel members, we will also send an email to their parent or guardian with a link to the survey Website. Parents or guardians can view any survey in which their child has been invited to participate.

We may also ask parents or guardians questions about the same or related issues, so we can learn where the views of parents and kids agree and where they differ. Parents or guardians who themselves agree to complete surveys may also be invited to our survey Website. Willingness or unwillingness by the parent or guardian to participate personally will not affect their child's participation.

We will never use or share the personally identifiable information provided to us online in ways unrelated to the ones described above without first obtaining explicit permission from the parent or guardian to do so, and giving them an opportunity to opt out or otherwise prohibit such unrelated uses.

BACK

Can KidzEyes panel members or their parents or guardians ever communicate directly with one of KidzEyes client companies?

KidzEyes does not provide this service. Most of our clients maintain 800 numbers and publish mail or email addresses for this purpose, and these can be found in many public directories or via most Web search engines.

If a survey requires some particular installed software, operating system, or browser and your computer does not fulfill these requirements, you may be able to install the software required, if you choose to do so.  If you are not able to bring your computer into compliance with the survey requirements, or you choose not to do so, you will not be able to participate in the survey.
